Ohonya Privacy Policy
Ohonya is a book, comic, and PDF reader. It is designed to work on your device. Apart from requests to the book catalogs you add yourself and Apple's App Store for purchases, the only thing it sends anywhere is your last reading position, and only to your own iCloud account so that your iPhone and iPad open a book at the same place.
Information we collect
Ohonya does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information to us. The app has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking.
Your files
Books and documents you add to Ohonya stay on your device. The app only reads files you explicitly choose through the system file picker, share into the app, or download from a catalog you added. Bookmarks, highlights, and settings are stored locally on your device and are never sent anywhere.
In-app purchase
Ohonya Pro is a one-time in-app purchase. Payment is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store; we never see your name, Apple Account, or payment details. To know whether Ohonya Pro is unlocked, the app asks Apple's StoreKit service on your device for your purchase status and keeps a single on/off flag in the app's settings. Restore Purchase asks the App Store to send your past purchases to this device.
Reading position sync (iCloud)
Reading position sync is part of Ohonya Pro. When you have Ohonya Pro, are signed in to iCloud, and iCloud is enabled for Ohonya, the app saves your last reading position for each book to your private iCloud database. This record contains the book's identifier or file name, the position in the book (page number, and for EPUB a text location), the time you turned the page, and the name of the device you were reading on. It is stored under your Apple Account, encrypted by iCloud, and readable only by your devices signed in to that account. We have no access to it. Nothing about your reading position leaves the device when iCloud is off or Ohonya Pro is not unlocked. If an Ohonya Pro purchase is refunded while Ohonya is open, syncing stops the next time you open the app.
To stop syncing, turn off iCloud for Ohonya in Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Apps Using iCloud. To delete the synced data, remove Ohonya's data in Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Manage Account Storage. Deleting the data in iCloud does not delete anything on your devices.
Network access
Ohonya does not connect to any server of ours. Reading positions are exchanged only with Apple's iCloud service, and purchases only with Apple's App Store, as described above. When you add an OPDS catalog, the app connects to the address you entered, and to the addresses that catalog links to, to list, search, and download books and covers. Your catalog user name and password are sent only to the address you entered. Catalog addresses and user names are stored on your device, and passwords are stored in the device Keychain. The app does not require an internet connection.
Children
Ohonya does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published with the app and on this page.
